all of us to live in.”
– Theodore Roosevelt
Need a Lift?
For years, stagnant wages for wait staff and minimum-wage workers have left many struggling to make ends meet, as housing costs skyrocket. This has fueled the growth of ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed), a group identified by the United Way as those working but unable to afford basic needs like rent and utilities. In response, GIG & HOPS is dedicated to improving community well-being by providing nonfood essentials twice a month at our Panglossian Lift locations and several locations partnering with the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank. By addressing the financial strain on essentials, we aim to enhance the health, hygiene, and quality of life for those in need. At GIG & HOPS, we believe in uplifting our neighbors and addressing the systemic issues that contribute to poverty, ensuring that no one is left without the basic necessities for a decent life.
PANGLOSSIAN LIFT & KID FRESH PROGRAMS
Current ways we offer support
GIG&HOPS is dedicated to empowering communities and providing essential non-food needs to individuals and families and children.
The current state of affairs has left countless people in our community without access to critical resources. There is an alarming dearth of support for essential non-food items. Many individuals are forced to go without basic hygiene products, household necessities, and other crucial items that most take for granted. Picture a child going without soap, toothpaste, or feminine hygiene products. Imagine their struggle to maintain cleanliness and personal well-being. These essential items have become unaffordable luxuries for those facing financial hardships. GIG&HOPS is an organization committed to serving these overlooked needs.
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” – Winston Churchill
But the kids . . . .
Kid Fresh Program
The GIG & HOPS Inc. Kid Fresh Program operates by referral only, offering special shopping days for school-aged children three times a year—at the start of fall, spring, and summer. This program provides essential items like school supplies, clothing, and shoes. Referrals must come from an approved agency and while we strive to assist as many as possible, participation is on a first-come, first-served basis and depends on available resources, so not all referred clients are guaranteed assistance.
